Finally, the Summer Olympics have taken place, for which all people and especially the athletes themselves have been waiting for. In the men’s freestyle all gold medals went to either Russia or the USA – except for the weight class of 65 kg. In contrast, in the Greco-Roman style only one gold medal went to Russia, two to Cuba and one each to Iran, Hungary and Ukraine.

Here are some Highlights:

Freestyle

1/2 FS – 65 kg: Haji Aliyev, Azerbaijan vs. Bajrang Punia, India

Gold FS – 74 kg: Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau, Belarus vs. Zaurbek Sidakov, Russia

Bronze FS – 74 kg: Kyle Dake, USA vs. Frank Chamizo, Italy

At that point of the match both wrestlers, Dake and Chamizo, are two-time world champions.

Gold FS – 86 kg: Hassan Yazdani, Iran vs. David Taylor, USA

The title holder Hassan Yazdani and David Taylor, world champion of 2018, meet for the third time. The last two matches turned out in Taylor’s favor.

Gold FS – 97 kg: Abdulrashid Sadulaev, Russia vs. Kyle Snyder, USA

The exceptional athlete Abdulrashid Sadulaev faces his biggest rival in the final: Kyle Snyder.

Gold FS – 125 kg: Gable Steveson, USA vs. Geno Petriashvili, Georgia

Greco-Roman

Gold GR – 67 kg: Mohammadreza Geraei, Iran vs. Parviz Nasibov, Ukraine

Gold GR – 87 kg: Zhan Beleniuk, Ukraine vs. Viktor Lorincz, Hungary

Gold GR – 97 kg: Musa Evloev, Russia vs. Artur Aleksanyan, Armenia

Gold GR – 130 kg: Mijain Lopez Nunez, Cuba vs. Iakobi Kajaia, Georgia

Mijaín López participated in the Olympic Games for the fifth time. He managed to do what no other wrestler has done before him: He became an Olympic champion for the fourth time.
